The WEMO Conference Track Meet delivered a loaded slate of performances this past weekend, and while talent showed up from every corner of the conference, it was Appleton City’s girls who stole the spotlight.
The Lady Bulldogs put together an impressive team effort to claim the high school varsity conference championship, stacking points across multiple events and showing the depth that set them apart. Leading the charge was Lainee Swaters, who captured conference titles in both shot put and javelin, while Shae Brownsberger added another championship in pole vault. Appleton City also closed strong with a conference title in the 4×400 relay, putting an exclamation point on an already dominant day.
On the boys side, Midway rose to the top with a high school varsity team conference championship of their own, powered by big performances from Trevyn Adams, who took first in the 100-meter dash, and Cory Carver, who secured gold in pole vault.
Across the conference, standout individual performances made it clear just how deep the talent runs in the WEMO. Grace Francis of Drexel turned in one of the most impressive days of the meet, bringing home three conference titles in the 100-meter dash, 100-meter hurdles, and 300-meter hurdles. Midway’s Ella Lyon and Ella Jamison added championships in the 3200-meter run and triple jump, respectively.
Archie made plenty of noise on the boys side as well, highlighted by a thrilling finish in the 200-meter dash. Lake Callahan edged out teammate Tristan Leeper by just one hundredth of a second, 23.30 to 23.31, in one of the closest races of the day. Callahan also went on to win the 400-meter dash, while Jackson Kash took the long jump, Peyton Burous won discus, and Western Bryant claimed javelin.
Rich Hill’s Andrew Kithcart added to the meet’s impressive list of champions, sweeping both the 1600-meter and 3200-meter runs with a dominant distance performance.
From top to bottom, the WEMO Conference meet showcased just how much talent is packed into the area. And while Appleton City’s girls walked away with the team title, the depth, competitiveness, and big-time performances across every school made this one of the most exciting meets of the season.
