The Appleton City Bulldogs are peaking and barking at just the right time.

After putting together an impressive regular season that included an impressive 11-game winning streak in the heart of their schedule, Appleton City has caught fire late, winning 13 of its last 15 contests on their way to claiming the Class 1 District 12 Championship.

Now sitting at 17-8 overall, the Bulldogs secured the district title with a hard-fought 9-7 victory over Leeton before knocking off Lakeland 10-4 in the championship game — doing so on the Vikings’ home field.

Appleton’s offense came alive throughout the district run, with several Bulldogs stepping up in key moments over the two-game stretch.

Wyatt Davis led the charge at the plate, going 4-for-7 with a hefty 4 RBIs, helping provide a spark in the middle of the lineup. Beau Brownsberger also turned in a strong showing, finishing 4-for-7 with an RBI double, while Weston Farmer delivered timely offense, batting 3-for-6 with two RBIs and a double.

Camden Flagg added to the offensive surge, going 3-for-7 with an RBI and a triple, while Hoyt Bock drove in three runs and finished 2-for-5 from the plate. Griffen Strope contributed a double and two RBIs, while Cooper Brownsberger added two RBIs of his own.

Dane Powel recorded a hit during the district stretch, while Jace Long showed solid plate discipline, drawing a walk and finding ways to contribute as Appleton pieced together its district title run.

With a district plaque now in hand, Appleton City turns its attention to the next challenge. The Bulldogs will host an 18-10 Dadeville squad in the opening round of sectional play on Monday at 5 p.m. in Appleton City.
