Kylee Dubray started the Butler Bears senior night off right, with the consecutive K’s. The Bears were playing host to the Versailles Lady Tigers and Kylee retired the entire side, collecting 3 strikeouts after facing 3 batters.
While Kylee’s defensive prowess started the contest, her sister’s offense gave Butler their first base-runner as she was aggressive at the plate, swinging at a first pitch for a lead-off double. The siblings were connected early, as Kylee was able to get a base hit that drove in her sister for the first score of the contest. After steeling second, then third, Kylee was brought in by a deep RBI double off the bat of Gabbie Carmichael.
After the opening frame, the Bears led 2-0.
Back in the circle, Kylee grabbed her fourth, consecutive strikeout. Dubray was carving up the Tigers as she had 6 strikeouts through 1.5 innings.
In the bottom of the second the Bears stranded a runner, and were held scoreless. Kylee went back to work. Dubray extended her strike-out count to 7 before Versailles finally recorded their first hit, a 1 out single in the 3rd. However, Kylee grabbed another K and Taylor Hudson snagged a foul ball to close the inning without damage.
Trudell kickstarted the Bears half of the 3rd with a lead off walk, and subsequently stole 2nd. Butler had a runner in scoring position with no outs. Hudson launched a deep fly to center that advanced Trudell to third, even though Hudson was out on the sacrifice. Kylee was hit by a pitch, giving the Bears runners on the corners. Gabbie lined a ball that was dropped by the Tigers right fielder, allowing Trudell to plate a run. Kayden Cook grounded into a fielders choice that put Kylee out at third, but after a wild throw to first Gabbie was able to cross home. Kinley Cook kept the rally going, collecting an RBI single herself.
After 3 the Bears were in full control with a score of 5-0.
The Bears again retired Versailles in order in the top of the fourth.
Kiersten got on base with an infield liner that was too hot for the Versailles first baseman to handle. However, she would be left on third as the Bears were unable to get her home.
An error for the Bears allowed the Lady Tigers to get on the board in the 5th. The Butler lead was shrunk ever-so-slightly, 5-1 after 5.5.
Gabbie’s hot bat continued in the 5th as she collected a 1-out single. Gabbie was able to find a way to cross the plate again. The Bears again led by 5 (6-1) at the end of 5.
The 5 run Butler advantage would hold, as the Bears picked up a win.
