Adrian Blackhawks baseball picked up a pair of wins last week at the Holden Tournament.
Their first win came against the Midway Vikings, where the Blackhawks jumped out to an early 4-1 lead after two innings. Adrian first scored on a Bryler Ford double that plated Elijah Hubbard, who had singled to lead off the bottom of the first. In the second inning, Thurman and Talley both scored on errors before Underwood picked up an RBI sac fly that brought Travis Fredlow home.
In the top of the third frame, the Vikings were able to find a much-needed spark and tied the game up at four apiece. After a scoreless fourth inning, Midway took its first lead of the contest, going up 5-4 after Blake Russ tripled to lead off the inning and was later driven in by Jackson Bridges.
However, Adrian responded well, collecting four hits and three runs in their half of the inning to reclaim a 7-5 advantage. In the end, the Blackhawks were able to finish strong and secure a 9-5 victory.
Offensively, Adrian was led by Bryler Ford, who went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and collected four RBIs. Hubbard and Standlea each recorded multiple hits as well. Ford not only performed at the plate, but also went four innings on the mound, striking out seven while allowing just one hit and one earned run. Owen went three innings and struck out three.
Up next for the Blackhawks were the Clinton Cardinals. Adrian again jumped out to an early lead. The Blackhawks dominated much of the early innings and held a comfortable 8-1 lead after three.
The Cardinals, however, took full advantage of a few errors and some struggles on the mound for the Blackhawks, scoring six runs in the sixth inning. Clinton made it a ballgame all of a sudden, cutting the lead to 9-8 with just six outs remaining.
In the top of the seventh, Clinton tied it up at 9-9. With two outs, the bases loaded, and the game tied, Kale Hastie drove in the winning run with a walk-off RBI on a liner to center. Adrian won 10-9 to pick up their second win of the tournament.
Hubbard, Enos, and Fredlow all recorded multiple hits for the Blackhawks.
