There is a great deal of anticipation around the Adrian Softball team this year, and rightfully so. The Blackhawks finished last season with a 16-10 overall record, and a single post-season win. New Adrian Head Coach Katie Collins talked with Tailgate TV about the coming season!
When asked about last year’s record, and this year’s expectations, Coach Collins told Tailgate TV “We’re looking to improve on that record”, and while talking with Collins, that hope seems pretty likely. Coach went on to say, “There’s a lot of returning talent. We aren’t chasing any specific numbers, but I think the team will see improved success from last year.” Collins has the team working hard to achieve the goal of bettering themselves, “We practice every day with the mindset of becoming a championship team.”
The make up of this year’s Blackhawks team is exciting! There is a plethora of mature leaders, mixed with some youthful talent as well. “We have a good core group of seniors this year. It always helps when your pitcher and catcher are strong leaders. All 6 of our seniors lead by example and set clear expectations for the younger ones. Unfortunately we will be missing playing time from one of our seniors due to a broken ankle from the first week of practice, but she’s stepped up to fill all the roles she can.” Coach Collins went on to talk about the younger ladies on the team as well, “Our young returners are very competitive as well. Decisions on who will see the field as starters are very difficult to make, which is a great problem to have!”
Coach Katie Collins is in her first year as a coach at the Blackhawks, but she is no stranger to the sport. She player her high school ball at Belton High School, and then went on to play collegiate softball at The University of Central Missouri. Coach Collins has coached the sport since 2019.
Fans have a lot to be pumped for this year! Katie said that fans should be excited to “see how the girls play together as a team. They truly are a very fun group to watch! The more fun they have, the better they preform which is very exciting to watch!”
Good luck Lady Blackhawks!
