The Archie Tournament has been jam-packed with action this week! The Rich Hill Tigers have been making the commute to the Archie Dome to take part in this annual basketball extravaganza.
After suffering a first round defeat at the hands of the Harrisonville Lady Wildcats (see previous article for more info), the Lady Tigers were scheduled to take on Archie’s JV squad in the 2nd round of play. The Lady Tigers came out swinging in the battle, and jumped out to an early 24-6 lead after the opening quarter concluded. In just the first quarter alone Lanie Phelps would have 4 shots from deep that would tickle the twine.
The Lady Tigers would continue to roll though the JV Lady Whirlwinds, leaving the matchup with a 58-23 victory.
Lanie Phelps would end the night with an impressive 8 made three pointers leading to a game leading 26 points, followed by Maysi Miller with 13 points. Archie was led by Hunt with 6 points.
After the win against the Lady Whirlwinds, the Lady Tigers would advance to match-up against the Midway Lady Vikings in the consolation game. This game would see back and forth action as Rich Hill would cling to a narrow 22-21 advantage at the half. The Lady Tigers would continue to increase the margin in the second half of play and at the final buzzer Rich Hill was on top of the Lady Vikings with a final of 50-43.
Maysi Miller led all scoring on the night with 20 points for the Lady Tigers. Lanie Phelps would also contribute 13 points and Kayden Coonce added 12 points. For Midway, Dakota Dean led the way with 17 on the night.
The men would face Harrisonville in the second round after conquering the Drexel Bobcats in the opening round. After a fairly cold first quarter on both sides, the Tigers would find themselves leading the Wildcats with a score of 12-10. The Second quarter saw some increased offensive firepower, with the Wildcats taking a narrow 30-28 lead into the locker room.
The Wildcats would continue to press on in the 2nd half, and would wrap up the game with a 75-64 win over the Rich Hill Tigers.
Brayden Chandler and Dillon Coonce both recorded 19 points for the Tigers, followed by 12 points for Zane Becker. The Wildcats were led by Mason Mitchell with 22 and Dom Jackson with 18.
